Project Resilience During COVID-19

New Permanent Name

The name “Horne Lake Landing” was used as a temporary name for Saa’men’s first retail development project, with the intention for it to be named permanently at a later date. The day has come! The development will be permanently named “Kwalikum Crossing.”

Affects of COVID-19 on the Kwalikum Crossing Project

Saa’men has worked diligently to maintain the project plan throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, however with no end in sight, Saa’men must consider how to best modify the project to offset the affects of the pandemic. The most significant setback is the cost of construction. The pandemic has caused a shortage of materials and manpower, forcing cost of materials to skyrocket. In addition to the high cost of construction, some elements of the initial plan must be revisited to ensure they continue to be strategic, aimed at increasing economic success.

Saa’men has applied for millions of dollars in funding through various economic development programs in BC and Canada. As those funding decisions are announced over the coming weeks, Saa’men will be better equipped to define the final budget for the project and refine various aspects of the business to ensure its future success.

Another update will be provided to members this spring, as soon as the Board is able to determine the best path forward.
